Flip Training Pant Review

When I saw the announcement that Cotton Babies had developed a new Training Pant, I was intrigued. I love my clothdiapers, but has always put off by the cost of cloth trainers. Paying $20 for 1 trainer just seamed too much for me. I would need probably 8-9 per day, plus naps and bedtimes. So I would suck it up, and buy Pull Ups.
I am a huge fan of the Cotton Babies products, so I pre-ordered and waited for my newest addition to my stash to come.

For $34.95 you can get 1 shell and 5 organic cotton pads. That alone was a huge bonus for me, as it solves my price concerns.
The Flip Trainer fits children 20-50 Lbs (I even got a good fit on my 17lbs daughter)so it should easily last until your child is staying dry at night.

Highlights:
Easy Open Sides
One of the great things about a pull up is the easy open sides to clean up those messy accidents. The Flip Training pant has snaps on both sides for easy clean ups! There are 2 rows of snaps on the stretchy tabs giving you a perfect fit for any child.
I have even tried this as a side snapping diaper for my 10 month old daughter with great results.

Adjustable Rise
3 rows of snaps just like the 1 sized diapers I love, give you a custom fit. It fits my 17lbs daughter as well as my 31 lbs son beautifully!

Removable Pads
The organic cotton soaker pads attach with aplix at the front and rear of the training pant, preventing bunching, and still allowing your child to feel the wetness. When your child has an accident, just remove the pad and replace with a dry one! In a pinch, you can even place a flat or prefold under the flaps. It won't be attached, but when I tried it it worked fine.

Variety of Colours
There are lots of options available in all our favourite Cotton Babies colours, and there will even be an option to order different side panels to customize your trainer!

Of course the big question everyone is waiting for, how well does it work?
Cotton Babies did not disappoint!
I have tried my Flip trainer for every possible situation I could so far.
Over nights: with 2 pads, my heavy wetter son wakes up with dry sheets every time. With 1 pad, my 10 month old daughter wakes with dry sheets. This is a great day and night option in my house. I especially love that my son now has a night time option he can put on all by himself.

I love this trainer, and when I am ready to potty train my daughter, I plan to sell off her cloth diaper stash and just keep some Flip Training pants. The only complaint I have is there is no way to attach a second pad for over nights. This is a small complaint, because if your child is sleeping through the night then the pads do stay put under the flaps, but I would like to see a way to attach a second pad. Like I said, it is a small complaint. I highly recommend this trainer to anyone who is in the potty learning stage. It's a great product for a great price. Who could ask for more? It's even cute!

Happy Birthday Little one! I can't believe you are 5 years old!!

Sometimes I can't help but doubt my self. I know I am not alone in this. In fact, the first piece of advice I give new moms is "trust your gut, and don't doubt it just because some questions you." Yet, that is what I am doing yet again.

The situation: my 10 month old baby girl is still pretty much exclusively breast fed. She just began to sit this month. She can not crawl yet. I offer her food, and she forces it out with her tongue. Yes, I have offered different textures, and tastes, and consistencies. I get the same result. She is just a happy little lump! Yes, she is gaining weight. Yes, she is happy. Yes, she is being referred to a development specialist. *sigh*

This is where I doubt my self. She is baby #5, and I have never made it this long with breastfeeding.

Baby #1- At 3 months, I became pregnant with baby #2 (oops!) and he was no longer getting enough from me. I began solids (I regret that decision as he developed a milk sensitivity) All my "support" encouraged me that he was ready. At 5 1/2 months, we made the switch to formula.

Baby #2- At 4 months we began solids. The recommended age at that time was 4 months, and my "support" encouraged me that it was time. At 8 months, he developed pneumonia, and in the treatment of that we discovered he had been loosing weight, too much weight to be lost just as a result of the illness. He was not eating solids well, so the only increase was to supplement with formula. With in a month, he was weaned.
Shortly after this, I saw my doctor, and discovered my Thyroid levels were too low. I now believe this is why my milk was not sufficient. Low thyroid affects the quantity and quality of breast milk.

Baby #3- Baby 3 started wonderfully. At 6 months, we attempted to introduce solids. He began waking even more than he already was. I removed the solids and tried again at 7 months. It went better. He was still waking trough the night every 2 hours. My health was not well. I was having dizzy spells, and my blood pressure was hight. Doubting my self again, I weaned. I hoped that it would make him sleep at night. I was wrong. Baby 3 did not sleep through the night until he was over a year. *sigh*
Looking back, I now realized my health issues began at the same time a switch was made in the brand of my Thyroid medication.

Baby #4- Still on the same brand of medication, at 4 months we discovered my son was loosing weight. I was determined to continue breastfeeding. My doctor asked how I felt about starting solids. At the time, I was dealing with my oldest milk sensitivity, and decided to supplement with formula thinking it would help me continue breast feeding. His weight went up, so we took the formula away. It went down again. He was so happy, but began looking ill.

We made the decision to wean. It broke my heart. I began pumping to mix my breast milk with his formula, and all I got was what looked like blue water.

After this, I began my research, and discovered the possibility of the brand issues in my medication. We discussed it, and I was put back on the original medication.

So now here we are with baby #5. She rolled over right at 4 months, but has always had less head control than my other babies. After 5 babies, I thought she would be a breeze.....now I am second guessing my self. I can't help but be concerned that maybe she needs more.....maybe I am doing something wrong.....Maybe if I started solids earlier.....
My husband assures me that every thing is fine. I have trusted my gut more with her than ever before, but sometimes I can't help but doubt myself.....

Ever have days like that?

Thrifty Thursdays

Today my Thrifty Thursday post is a bit different. As I have posted before, I am always looking for ways to cut down my expences. It's hard to be a one income family, especially a larger family. So I often look for things I can do my self to keep the costs down. Well, I am super excited by Pintrest!!

Pintrest is a digital "pin" board social site.Users label and create theme-based image boards. Users can populate their own boards with media found online using the "Pin It" button.
Pins show up on the homepage through a Pin Feed that takes into account timing of pin, re-pinning activity, 'like' activity, and comment activity as well as your personal interests based on the board/pinners you follow.

Some of my favorite things so far are DIY ideas I want to try! Like this:

When you click on a pin, it takes you to the web site the pin was pinned from. So in this case, it goes to a DIY instruction! There are so many ideas on this site that I am DYING to try!! Plus, it is a great way to digitally organize your ideas!
I am not very crafty, so I love the ideas I am getting from this site!
