Silly Saturday The Things Kids Say.....

A Sunday School teacher of preschoolers was concerned that his students might be a little confused about Jesus Christ because of the Christmas season emphasis on His birth. He wanted to make sure they understood that the birth of Jesus occurred for real.

He asked his class, "Where is Jesus today?"
Steven raised his hand and said, "He's in heaven."
Mary was called on and answered, "He's in my heart."
Little Johnny, waving his hand furiously, blurted out, "I know, I know! He's in our bathroom!!!"
The whole class got very quiet, looked at the teacher, and waited for a response.
The teacher was completely at a loss for a few very long seconds.
Finally, he gathered his wits and asked Little Johnny how he knew this.
Little Johnny said, "Well...every morning, my father gets up, bangs on the bathroom door, and yells, "Good Lord, are you still in there?!"

A minister was giving the children's message during church. For this part of the service, he would gather all the children around him and give a brief lesson before dismissing them.

On this particular Sunday, he was using squirrels for an object lesson on industry and preparation. He started out by saying, "I'm going to describe something, and I want you to raise your hand when you know what it is." The children nodded eagerly.
"This thing lives in trees (pause) and eats nuts (pause)..." No hands went up. "And it is gray (pause) and has a long bushy tail (pause)..." The children were looking at each other, but still no hands raised. "And it jumps from branch to branch (pause) and chatters and flips its tail when it's excited (pause)..."
Finally one little boy tentatively raised his hand. The minister breathed a sigh of relief and called on him.
"Well," said the boy, "I know the answer you're looking for is supposed to be 'Jesus' ... but it sure sounds like a squirrel to me."

A Sunday school teacher was discussing the Ten Commandments with her five and six year olds. After explaining the commandment to "honor thy father and thy mother," she asked, "is there a commandment that teaches us how to treat our brothers and sisters?"

Without missing a beat one little boy (the oldest of a family of seven) answered, "Thou shall not kill!"
Billy had reached school age. His mother managed with a blast of propaganda to make him enthusiastic about the idea. She bought him lots of new clothes, told him of the new friends he'd meet, and so on.

When the first day came, Billy eagerly went off and came back home with a lot of glowing reports about school. The next morning when his mother woke him up, he asked, "What for?" She told him it was time to get ready for school.
"What?" he asked. "Again?"

Tropical Traditions Coconut Oil Giveaway (US/Can)

I am really excited to bring you this giveaway! I have been trying out coconut oil recently and LOVE it!

Powered by Mom's Review

I've been using coconut oil for over a year now and I love it. It's funny though that every time I would tell a friend or family member about it I would get looks of disbelief and of course the one question I always get is does it make everything take like coconuts? Absolutely not! In fact when my family didn't even know when I switched to coconut oil.
I was a bit sneaky about the switch I just started using it without telling my husband and daughter. I wanted to see if they even noticed and they didn't! Now does coconut oil have a taste? Well of course as does every oil out there and they all taste different from each other. It's so subtle though you might not taste it at all, it also depends on what you're cooking it with. The only time my family ever noticed a "taste" is when I made hashbrowns with coconut oil. It wasn't a bad taste but you just noticed it which they hadn't with any other food up until then. That's pretty darn good. It's absolutely wonderful for stir fry, sauteeing anything, pancakes and well everything.

Check out this video to find out more about Tropical Traditions Coconut oil and their amazing process.

Tropical Traditions coconut oil gets a 2 thumbs up from Powered by Mom.

Still needs so convincing to make the switch? here is what Mom Does Reviews thinks:

After seeing Tropical Traditions Coconut oil as a giveaway on facebook, I thought sure it was a fancy tanning oil.  I was pretty far off.  Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil is actually a healthier alternative to corn oil, vegetable oil or butter.  It is one of the least processed oils, that helps it retain the coconut flavor.  You can use it in just about anything.  I was skeptical at first to even try it for cooking because my son doesn’t like coconut. But after I made pancakes and used coconut oil instead of spray Pam, I was hooked.  There was a slightly sweet coconut taste to the pancakes which made them so much better.  I used coconut oil in brownies that I made also.  They were so much more moist than when I use vegetable or canola oil.  I have replaced butter or vegetable oil with coconut oil in all my baking.

 The Giveaway:

Four great bloggers- Powered By Mom, Mom Does Reviews,Mommy and Baby Reviews and Kat's Cafe- have joined with these fabulous bloggers-Bargain Hound, Free Social 2011, Life- Full of Unexpected Happiness, One Mom's Moxie , Family, Love and Other Stuff, Central Bargains and Giveaways, Emptynester Reviews and Giveaways, Coupon Klout - to bring you an awesome Giveaway. Mother's Day

In honour of Mother's Day......

Reflections on mothers written by kids ...
What’s the best thing about your mom?: She loves and cares for me.
Describe the world’s greatest mom: The world’s greatest mom is kind and beautiful, which is my mom.
Why did God make mothers?

  • So they could multiply.
  • As helpers to dads.
  • So kids could have someone to love.
If there were no moms, then no one would love us (except dads) and I wouldn’t be born.
  • How did God make mothers?
  • By power.
  • He just made them.
What is the difference between moms and grandmas?
Grandmas are old, pruney people, but moms are smooth and don’t have a lot of lines. Grandmas can barely walk, moms can run.

A man came home from work and found his 3 children outside, still in their pajamas, playing in the mud, with empty food boxes and wrappers strewn around garden, The door of his wife's car was open, as was the front door to the house and no sign of the dog, walking in the door, he found ...an even bigger mess.

A lamp had been knocked over, the throw rug was against one wall, In the front room the TV was on loudly with the cartoon channel, the family room was strewn with toys and various items of clothing. In the kitchen, dishes filled the sink, breakfast food was spilled on the counter, the fridge door was open wide, dog food was spilled on the floor, a broken glass lay under the table, and a small pile of sand was spread by the back door.

He quickly headed up the stairs, stepping over toys and more piles of clothes, looking for his wife. He was worried she might be ill, or that something serious had happened. He was met with a small trickle of water as it made its way out the bathroom door. As he peered inside he found wet towels, scummy soap and more toys strewn over the floor. Miles of toilet paper lay in a heap and toothpaste had been smeared over the mirror and walls.

As he rushed to the bedroom, he found his wife still curled up in the bed in her pajamas, reading a novel... She looked up at him, smiled and asked how his day went. He looked at her bewildered and asked, 'What happened here today?' She again smiled and answered, 'You know every day when you come home from work and you ask me what in the world do I do all day?...
''Yes," was his incredulous reply..

She answered, "Well, today I didn't do it."

Happy Mother's Day Everyone

Signing Time On Demand Review

Before I had kids if some one told me to teach them sign language as a baby, I would have laughed.
After 5 children, 2 of whom have speech delays, and 1 with speech and development delays, I am a believer.

When my oldest was 3 months, I became pregnant with my second baby. At 1 year, my little baby was a big brother. By age 2, his "baby brother" was talking more than he was. It was then I knew we had a problem, but the waiting list for speech therapy was so long it took until he was 4 years old. While we waited, I didn't know what to do. Then I discovered Signing Time. Suddenly my son was beginning to communicate with me. He was signing and even speaking more after watching the DVD's. Then baby number 3 showed the same troubles. Buy this time we had learned the benefits of signing with babies, and he was able to sign starting at 9 months old. This saved countless meltdowns. Today, both my boys are speaking well, but we face a new challenge. My 14 month daughter is showing gross and fine motor skill delays, and speech delays. She has not said a word yet, but can sign milk when she is hungry.

When I was given the chance to review Signing Time's new Digital Videos, I was so excited. I knew this would be a huge asset to my daughter and the rest of the family. We chose to review Baby Signing Time Volume 1 - It's Baby Signing Time.

The Basics

Signing Time On Demand
Signing Time On Demand takes all your favourite Signing Time episodes and makes them available to you on any of your devices with out on-line steaming, so you can watch them with out an internet connection. No more searching for the DVD, or dealing with scratches. Just instant access to the Signing Time library. It's easy to set up, and easy to use! I can even let my children access it them selves on my desktop. You can take your videos and copy them to your iPhone or iPad (An Android app is in the works) giving you access on the go!

Baby Signing Time Volume 1 - It's Baby Signing Time
Baby signing time is created specifically for babies as young as 3 months old up to 3 years, but all my children enjoyed it. The best thing about Signing Time products is the way they teach the sign. When introducing the sign there is a picture of the object or action and a childs narration of the word. The host then comes and shows the sign and explains how the sign is done. For the sign eat she explains "it's like there is food in your hand, and you bring it to your mouth." Every thing is colourful, and there is fun music playing. We then see toddlers signing and the child narrator repeats the word. After a few children repeating the sign, we see a mixture of children eating and children signing. This repetition and mixture helps show your child what the sign is for. In my experience, the delivery in the Signing Time products has been more effective than anything else I've tried.

ASL signs taught in Baby Signing Time Volume 1 - It's Baby Signing Time.:
Eat - Drink - Cracker - Water - Cereal - Milk - Banana - Juice - Finished - Mom - Grandma - Dad - Grandpa - Diaper - Potty - More - Bird - Fish - Cat - Dog - Horse - Frog - Hurt - Where

These are the perfect starting signs for even the sceptical beginners

While You'll love it:
  • Convenient. No internet connection is required once you download the video, it's yours to watch at any time with out interruptions or quality issues
  • You can keep your videos even if you switch to a new computer or wipe your hard drive. Just download the player on the new computer and you have access to all your videos
  • Teaches ASL to your children (ASL can help reduce the unexplainable outbursts children tend to have, improve literary skills, teach a 2nd language, and can decrease frustration that comes with being unable to express oneself.)
  • Cost effective. Each episode is available at Signing Time On Demand for $14.99 USD. The DVD's are available for $19.99. Plus there is no loosing or scratching the disc!
  • Eco Friendly. No pollution cause in the manufacturing of a DVD
Why They will love it:
  • Lots of music (It's really catchy too)
  • Fun characters
  • Bright colours
  • Teaches babies how to effectively communicate before they can form words.

Extra Bonus And Freebie

Until May 18, you can be entered to win an iPad 3 with every download! Download a FREE Signing Time On Demand video for your first entry!

Get more information on Signing Time products at http://www.twolittlehands.com/

Hallmark Blooming Expressions Vase (Us/Can)

Can you believe Mother's Day is right around the corner.  Are you ready?  I know I am...Not!  No not yet...but am working on getting there.  You see I need to know just how do I tell my Mom how much I really do appreciate her.  Hallmark has a new commercial....Tell Me.  It makes me wonder just how to do that.

Let me paint you a rosie pretty picture of my childhood with Mom baking cookies and patting my head.  Or let me tell the truth.  Mom was a busy working woman raising 5 kids that were loud crazy and out of control 90% of the time.  Mom taught me the home truths of life....work hard so you can pay the bills so your kids never worry about the lights being turned off.  Love someone that you have seen their ugly side as it will be the one that is snoring beside you in the middle of the night.  Hug your babies tight because there is a day they wiggle away to play with their friends instead.  And use sun block...you will wrinkle...you will age....you will not like it but you can accept it when the grandbabes run to you screaming....NONNIE!
My Mom taught me that as children we are protected and as adults we protect.  My Mom was tough.  She fought for us as much as we fought with each other.  My Mom most often fell asleep in front of the TV right after serving us dinner because her days started at 5 a.m.  And my Mom did without meals, new shoes and at times even transportation so that we could have what we needed.  I want to tell her....

Thanks for bringing me into this world.

I appreciate all you have done to raise me into a strong woman.

Your beautiful because of the lines in your face.

I love you!  I respect you!  I want to be just like you!

And this year I am just trying to figure out how to get it all written on one lil scrap of paper that will unfold out of a red rose.

We have one of these to share with you too.  One that will be able to tell your mom or special person just what you want them to know.  Now all you have to do is figure out just what you want to tell them too!

Silly Saturday High School Essays

Actual Similes And Metaphors Found By High School English Teachers
  • Her face was a perfect oval, like a circle that had its two sides gently compressed by a Thigh Master.
  • His thoughts tumbled in his head, making and breaking alliances, like underpants in a dryer without Cling Free.
  • He spoke with the wisdom that can only come from experience, like a guy who went blind because he looked at a solar eclipse without one of those boxes with a pinhole in it and now goes around the country speaking at high schools about the dangers of looking at a solar eclipse without one of those boxes with a pinhole in it.
  • She grew on him like she was a colony of e-coli and he was room-temperature Canadian beef.
  • She had a deep, throaty, genuine laugh, like that sound a dog makes just before it throws up.
  • Her vocabulary was as bad as, like, whatever.
  • He was as tall as a six-foot, three-inch tree.
  • The revelation that his marriage of 30 years had disintegrated because of his wife's infidelity came as a rude shock, like a surcharge at a formerly surcharge-free ATM machine.
  • The little boat gently drifted across the pond exactly the way a bowling ball wouldn't.
  • McBride fell 12 stories, hitting the pavement like a Hefty bag filled with vegetable soup.
  • From the attic came an unearthly howl. The whole scene had an eerie, surreal quality, like when you're on vacation in another city and Jeopardy comes on at 7:00 p.m. instead of 7:30.
  • Her hair glistened in the rain like a nose hair after a sneeze.
  • The hailstones leaped from the pavement, just like maggots when you fry them in hot grease.
  • Long separated by cruel fate, the star-crossed lovers raced across the grassy field toward each other like two freight trains, one having left Cleveland at 6:36 p.m. traveling at 55 mph, the other from Topeka at 4:19 p.m. at a speed of 35 mph.
  • They lived in a typical suburban neighborhood with picket fences that resembled Nancy Kerrigan's teeth.
  • John and Mary had never met. They were like two hummingbirds who had also never met.
  • He fell for her like his heart was a mob informant, and she was the East River.
  • Even in his last years, Granddad had a mind like a steel trap, only one that had been left out so long, it had rusted shut.
  • Shots rang out, as shots are wont to do.
  • The plan was simple, like my brother-in-law Phil. But unlike Phil, this plan just might work.
  • The young fighter had a hungry look, the kind you get from not eating for a while.
  • He was as lame as a duck. Not the metaphorical lame duck either, but a real duck that was actually lame, maybe from stepping on a land mine or something.
  • The ballerina rose gracefully en pointe and extended one slender leg behind her, like a dog at a fire hydrant.
  • It was an American tradition, like fathers chasing kids around with power tools.
  • He was deeply in love. When she spoke, he thought he heard bells, as if she were a garbage truck backing up.
